Transforming Justice
Addressing harms, while reimagining and restoring communities
Who We Are
The Community Justice Society (CJS) is a charitable non-profit organization that has been delivering a variety of restorative programs in Halifax area communities for more than 40 years. CJS advocates and educates about restorative approaches while working with community and justice partners. CJS helps clients take meaningful accountability and discover alternate ways to repair harm and create a positive way forward using community supports and learned strategies to move through difficult situations in the future.
Our Justice Programs
Community Programs
CJS works with individuals and/or community organizations, businesses and government partners to promote restorative justice approaches for what happens in everyday life at home, school or work. Our Community Programs evolve as community needs emerge, and include everything from
- Lunch ‘n Learn for groups or businesses;
- Presentations to schools, businesses and organizations;
- Gender Based Youth Programming – i.e. “The Hive” Girls Group
- Creating Restorative Environments in School Communities (CRESC)
- Options to Anger (O2A) – learn to acknowledge and reduce anger
- Stoplift – explore the economic and personal cost of retail theft
*Please note that for O2A and Stoplift priority is given to clients involved in the Restorative Justice Program.
