The Community Justice Society (CJS) is a not for profit, charitable organization that delivers the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program (NSRJP) within the Halifax Regional Municipality. In addition to NSRJP, CJS offers restorative programming to clients and community in safe, respectful and empowering atmospheres. We are currently hiring for full time positions of Restorative Justice (RJ) Caseworkers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Our RJ Caseworkers are responsible for engaging all stakeholders in each case referred to the NSRJP. Stakeholders include those who create harm, those who are harmed, community members, police officers, probation officers, other justice partners and community members and agencies. The RJ Caseworker also works from a principled position adhering to Nova Scotia Department of Justice NSRJP Protocols and Guidelines as well as CJS Policies and Procedures. Specific tasks include but are not limited to:
- Case review and principle based planning/designing
- Welcome and Preparation Meetings with case stakeholders
- Managing assigned case load
- Producing clear, concise and timely case notes and reports
- Facilitating RJ Sessions as required
- Facilitating RJ Programs as required
- Networking with community agencies to strengthen relationships and program delivery
- Liaising with Police, Community Corrections, Crown, and the Courts in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM)
- Participating in regular supervision meetings and training
Qualifications
- University degree in a relevant field AND minimum one year experience in a related position OR equivalent combination of education and experience*
- Clear Child Abuse Registry Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Knowledge and understanding of NSRJP Principles and protocols
- Experience managing a caseload and clear grasp of casework protocols
- Proven ability to interact with persons of all backgrounds in a supportive, inclusive, equitable manner
- Ability to prioritize, and excellent time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, and computer literacy
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships
- Demonstrated group facilitation skills and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work with difficult people and maintain professionalism
- Working understanding of issues and concerns related to youth and adult crime, and victims of crime
- Keen awareness of issues facing diverse communities
- Ability to work in partnership with stakeholder organizations
The successful candidate will have access to reliable transportation and/or possess a valid driver’s license and suitable driver’s abstract.

The compensation package for these full time unionized positions is commensurate with Department of Justice funding ($50,000/year + health benefits and RRSP) and has options for modern work week schedules.
