The Community Justice Society (CJS) could not operate without our talented and committed volunteers. Community leadership is vital to the success of CJS, and we strive to create and maintain a volunteer team that is as diverse as the clients and communities we serve. Therefore, we encourage those who identify as African Nova Scotian, Indigenous, new immigrant settling in Nova Scotia, racially visible person, person living with disabilities, and person of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community to self identify.

Position on the Board of Directors

Each year, the CJS Nominating Committee of our volunteer Board of Directors does research and forwards names for consideration as community leaders on the volunteer CJS Board of Directors. If you are interested in being considered, please contact us.

Position as a Community Representative

CJS invites volunteers to represent community needs and clarify impacts in our justice processes. Having volunteers help those who have created harm to see the broader impact of their actions, and then supporting a way forward for all, including those harmed, is a vital part of our restorative work in our communities.

We welcome volunteer involvement in different components of our work, and from time to time we have specific recruitment opportunities. Please watch for these, or contact us for more information.

Volunteer Voice

Right from the start I became a more rooted and connected member of my community as a result of facilitating restorative processes, I regularly feel honoured to facilitate circles. It is quite a special thing to be able to guide a process for families and community members to have important, and often courageous, conversations. In being present for such conversations I learn more about what it means to be in relationship with others, what it means to be part of a community and in the end what it means to be a human in a complicated world.
